    Pioneer Car Audio Systems

Pioneer's Mobile Business Group is known for offering the kind of in-car products that make driving more enjoyable by offering high quality audio and video, seamless connectivity and ease-of-use. Its focus is on the development of new digital technologies including audio video, navigation and satellite radio, while maintaining its strong heritage in products for car audio enthusiasts and sound competitors.

    Front USB and auxiliary inputs.

    Remote control included.

    DEH-2200UB Features

    Detachable Faceplate
When you're away from your car, remove the face from the receiver for protection against theft.

The faceplate features a one-line, 10-character LCD display, along with a large rotary volume control.

    Dual Color Illumination
Choose the button illumination color from Red or Green to suit your vehicle--or mood.

    CD-R/RW Playback
Play back your favorite CDs and burnt CD-R/RW discs in the slot-loading CD player.

    MP3 and WMA Playback
Don't let your favorite music downloads languish on your computer hard drive. Burn them to a CD-R or CD-RW and play them right on the car stereo. Each disc you burn has the capacity to hold up to ten complete albums of MP3 music and twenty for WMA discs. Trust us, that's a lot of music.

    iPod Made Easy
It's easy! Simply plug your iPod directly into the unit using the optional CD-IU50 iPod cable, and you are ready to rock and roll. Listening to an artist that you just can't get enough of? Now you can hold the "List" button down and it will pop up folders containing that specific artist, album, or genre. You can also have your passenger control your music directly from the iPod.

Bring Your Music to Life with Advanced Sound Retriever
This year you can hear the detail, warmth, and clarity the way the artist intended it, from all of the highly compressed MP3, WMA and AAC files playing on your CD player. By restoring data that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, we can make your music sound close to CD quality.

    Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner
Pioneer's legendary Supertuner IIID combines the best of digital and analog tuner technologies to reduce distortion to bring you exceptional FM and AM performance. If you live in an area where reception is weak, you'll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you're near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings.

MOSFET 50W x4 Amplifier for the Power Hungry
Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, delivering power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. And that doesn't just mean a boost in volume: it means that your music will be cleaner at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. Clean, efficient power that will rock your vehicle.

Inevitably, there will be those who still need more. The DEH-2200UB is therefore equipped with a pair of 2.2V rear preamp outputs for system expansion with external amps/speakers.

    Get Plugged In
Use the built-in AUX input for connecting any digital portable player and other external auxiliary devices. For extra-convenient access, the input is on the front panel.

    Dial In Your Sound
Tweak the sound to your liking with the on-board three-band EQ. A Loudness feature ensures ample low-end even during quiet listening, and standard balance/fader controls let you adjust the stereo image to suit your vehicle and preferences.

5 out of 5 stars Great deck for the money.   July 28, 2010
    Wayne Bengston (Cordelia, CA)
I purchased this for my 1988.5 Suzuki Samurai, mainly to add Ipod support.

Installing it in a Samurai requires a little persuasion, but it will fit using the stock brackets with no cutting or other modifications.

I first used the 21 year old stock 4-5/8" "1-way" speakers, and it was a decent improvement over the stock deck, but I knew that a speaker upgrade would really add to the experience.

I then hooked up a set of Pyle PL42BL 4-Inch 180 Watt Two-Way Speakers and found the total lack of bass to be annoying. I had relied on resources which said that the stock speakers were 4", which was incorrect. The 4" speakers mounted to the factory grilles though, but the right 5.25" speaker would as well, and would have much better sound. I was also unable to hear the radio at freeway speeds which was unacceptable. I feel this is due to using higher power speakers than

The stock speaker setup in a Samurai has the 4-5/8" speakers mounted to the grills using 5.25" mounts, and the grills then mount to 6.5" mounts. This means that a 6.5" speaker can be mounted with no cutting, though the stock grils may not work.

So I then bought a set of Pioneer TS-A1673R 6.5-Inch 3-way speakers. After installing these, I was wowed by the sound from this 2-speaker set-up. It is actually better than the sound in many 4-speaker cars, and the way the Samurai directs the sound, it sounds great even from the back seat. I now have no plans for installing rear speakers.

I am extremely pleased with the Pioneer deck and speakers. Whatever speakers you wind up with, if you are not using an amp, try to stay close to 25 watts RMS, which is the output of the deck. The Pioneers I used are 35 watts RMS, which seems to be a good match as I can here the speakers no matter how fast I am going.

It integrates seamlessly with an Ipod, and also plays MP3s off of a USB drive. The tuner has very good sensitivity. I do wish the display were bigger and the controls on the deck easier to use, but for $115, I really can't complain.

5 out of 5 stars Great upgrade for a car's sound system.   July 24, 2010

I have been using this radio for the past month and have been very satisfied with its performance. I have noted an obvious improvement in sound quality from my stock system. Installation of the system was a bit tricky but can be made easier with the purchase of a wiring harness adapter that is specifically designed for your vehicle. (Online guides can also aid in the installation for your particular vehicle.) Both the USB port and the AUX input jack work well and I have had no issues with the operation of the device. I love this product and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

4 out of 5 stars Easy, quick. great sound, helpful button placement.   July 23, 2010

Love it. This is a really nice head. I'd bought an earlier model for my wife's car, and when I chose to put one in my car I found it was discontinued. I took a chance on this head and have chosen NOT to tell my wife I like it better than her's. I have described it as "exactly the same" or "no different." Neither of these statements are true. This is a superb car stereo with a very logical system that doesn't take long to master. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value   July 18, 2010

I just bought this CD receiver to replace the stock unit in my '05 civic. Amazon had the price down to $105 when I purchased it, making it one of the best values for quality CD receivers out there with USB capability. I mainly chose the Pioneer due to the solid reviews (many other brands out there have similar sub-$100 units, but they get regularly thrashed by buyers).

Did the installation myself, helps to buy an aftermarket dash unit (I used a Metra kit) so you can fit the unit in snugly and blend it in to the car. Very straightforward wiring, especially if you buy a wiring harness plug for your car model.

Plays off CDs, thumb drives, and most ipods pretty easily. Very nice to have the USB capability so I can play off a pocketable thumb drive, they are so much easier than CDs and you can get an 8GB for under $20 these days. My old-as-stink iPod turned out to not be compatible, but I'm not really all that torn up as I never use it anyway, and would rather just keep a flash drive with me or in the car. It integrated just fine with a friend's iPhone and a more recent iPod. Controlling the iPod is not bad if you have organized playlists, but since you only have one display line, it's not as nice as just using the iPod alone. And if that's what you prefer, you can just use a 3.5mm headphone male/male cable in the AUX slot and plug any old iPod or mp3 player in, enjoy the easy interface - only upside of the USB slot is that it keeps the iPod charged for long journeys.

User interface, as might be expected, takes some getting used to. Expect a couple of trips or checks to the instruction manual before you remember how to adjust everything. There's more buttons than your average car stereo, so it's not super-intuitive like an iPod, but it's simple enough to be automatic after a while. Also comes with a remote, which I haven't used much, but the buttons are definitely more clear. It would be nice to maybe have two knobs (volume, tuning/adjustment), but I suppose there's not really room in a single-DIN unit to make it sensible.

I'm no audiophile, but it sounds fine to me. Lots of adjustability in bass, mid, treble. Was playing with the radio just after I installed it, and it seemed a little more staticy than I remember. But might have just been me, I will have to find a way to test it more categorically. Was working in my driveway behind a stone wall, and to be honest I can't even specifically remember plugging the antenna jack back in before fitting the dash back together, so who really knows.

5 out of 5 stars Great Head Unit   July 5, 2010

I bought this as an update for my 2001 Honda Accord. I bought it even though it received mixed reviews. I got the head unit in its original Pioneer packaging with the wiring harness. The unit itself is heavy though I agree with a few of the other reviewers in that the buttons and ports feel a little cheap but they seem like they will be long-lasting. The unit also lets you pick what color you want the illumination to be (either red or green). The problem is that the way the light passes through the buttons makes it a little difficult to see from the side. I use the USB cable directly to the unit and it works great. You can browse your music right through the unit. You can switch from using the head unit to browse to the iPod through a setting on the unit itself. I haven't used the audio jack to listen to music. The unit picks up the stations a lot better than the stock unit and the Pioneer actually makes my stock speakers sound 10000x better. I also installed the unit myself (which is a lot easier than people make it out to be) but I had purchased a converting harness to make the wiring a lot easier. Overall, I would definitely recommend the unit to others as a cheap, quick alternative to getting a higher end alternative.
