Product Description The TS-A6872R 3-way speakers don't scrimp when it comes to the highs and mids either. Pioneer made the midrange drivers out of a special laminated polyester that's 30% lighter than conventional material, resulting in faster, more accurate reproduction of instruments and vocals.
Amazon.com Product Description Pioneer's TS-A6872R 6-by-8-inch three-ways deliver power handling of 240 watts max. (40 watts nominal). Pioneer continues to set an example with next-generation technology for improved sound: the tweeter, magnets, surrounds, the voice coil wire, the basket and more are all high-performance components that make up a great speaker. | Pioneer's A-Series Speakers Pioneer A-series speakers outperform factory speakers on nearly every level. Packing a powerful punch, A-Series speakers are equipped with up to three independent tweeters with reinforced woofers, so every beat is heard and felt. Featuring a bigger, better cone than most OEM speakers, the A-series boasts serious output and booming bass. Extra-sensitive tweeters play at higher frequencies and are capable of handling stronger audio signals, resulting in vocals that are crisp and clear, even when you crank the volume. | TS-A6872R Features Composite IMPP Cone with Interlaced Aramid Fiber With long aramid fibers interlacing together inside, this IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity that powerful bass sound requires. High-density compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power well and transfers sound quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound character with midrange depth that conventional IMPP cones cannot match. Butyl Rubber Surrounds Durable butyl rubber speaker surrounds won't fall apart under the stress of extreme temperatures, sunlight or time, and help Pioneer's woofers deliver serious bass. Power Handling The TS-A6872R handles a full 240 watts max. power (40 watts nominal). Along with enhanced power handling, you still get the same high performance that all the TS-A's deliver. 6" x 8" Perfect Fit Speakers There are a few things in life we'll never understand. Like why do stereo companies keep trying to force people to put 5" x 7" speakers in 6" x 8" holes? It doesn't look or sound right. That's why Pioneer researched exactly what dimension speakers would work best with what cars. If it doesn't fit perfect, it's not gonna sound perfect. |

Pioneer TS-A6872R speaker review May 29, 2010 T. Johnson (Greer, SC) I purchased two sets of these to replace the factory speakers in my 2004 Ford Expedition. I replaced the front speakers first and then was able to compare the new speakers to the factory by switching back and forth. The new Pioneer speakers sound much better throughout the entire frequency range. This was an easy and cheep upgrade to the factory sound system. The quality of the speakers appears to be very good. I would recommend them.
Great sound and power May 19, 2010 Nacir It's very good for the buck you spend. The 240W give you a lot of vibrations :D
Can't wait to get additional ones for my front speakers.
You want an amp, you know you do. April 2, 2010 Ed J. Hayes (Oregon) For the price paid on Amazon, these are great speakers.
I used them in the front of a Mazda3 with the stock radio for one week before I adding an amp. That gave me a chance to listen to these speakers with and without external power. The result: Use an amp.
If you know 100% you won't ever use an amp or aftermarket head unit, I'd suggest looking at Pioneer's G series. They are meant as more of a drop in replacement for OEM speakers.
These TS-A6872R speakers did sound much much better than my stock speakers with just my Mazda head unit powering them. However, I needed to turn the volume up to about twice the displayed number for the same sound level. This means that at higher volumes, like with the windows down, the factory head unit will distort before you get to the desired volume. If you are ok with this limitation, then you can get by without an amp. They still sounded great with the stock head unit. Once I added the amp, the speakers truly came alive. Mids and lows filled out.
Also, give them some time to break in before you judge them. Bass in particular will be low until they break it.
I found the highs very controlled, not harsh or bright.
Since they are coaxial speakers, the stereo imaging depends where they are located in your vehicle. Mine are located down in the bottom of the front doors and I find they are very suspect to items interfering with the sound image (like people's legs, bags of groceries, etc). I will eventually move these speakers to the rear and put components up front, mostly because I want the higher mounted tweeters for imaging.
I measured these to by 3.6 ohms at the head unit, for those that care about that.
perfect or better March 20, 2010 Marcia P. Baughan (NC, Winston-Salem) i had seen these in walmart and they sounded great..i couldnt play then as loud as i wanted so i couldnt tell so i bought them on here and they are even too loud..im bout to set up my amp and other subwoofers and it will get much clearer and much louder, yall prolly hear me soon
A very good value to upgrade stock speakers March 9, 2010 HomeTHJunkie Installed these in the doors of a 2007 ford expedition XLT. Easy drop in replacement with no modifications needed.
Using a kenwood DVD head unit and a small jvc 2 channel amp (60 watts per channel) to run the speakers. Sound is excellent and using an amp makes a big difference. Lows are very tight and mid-range is good. The highs are a bit muted but that can be adjusted for using your sound control. With just a bit of adjustment, they sound excellent.
I kept the door tweeters and wired in bass blockers (stinger) to protect them. Note, the filter for the tweeters is wired directly into the door speaker. If you remove the door speaker, you must have something in-line to protect the tweeters (filter cap/bass blocker) or else they will be toast.
For $140 total (amp+speakers+bass blockers), this made a major difference in the sound. Very good, economical upgrade.
